Whenever the Sun shows its face, people would often hide away from it, always getting prepped with full protection to prevent darkened skin or even dark spots. If you are one of these people, you might be missing out on the greatest gift the Sun could present us, which is Vitamin D. Let’s find out how this gift could bring us better health shall we?

1. Bone Health

Calcium deficiency may result in poor bone growth in children and adolescents, even causing higher risks of osteoporosis in adults. Besides sufficient calcium intake, basking in the sun regularly may also help our body to produce Vitamin D, which may increase the absorption of calcium and strengthen our bone health, as well as preventing muscle cramps caused by hypocalcemia.

2. Immunity

Lack of Vitamin D may result in weakened immunity. Many researches have stated that Vitamin D may help in regulating inflammations and immunocytes. Therefore, Vitamin D is often involved in various diseases such as autoimmune diseases and allergic, mental disorders, chronic fatigue, influenza and other health conditions.

Of course, it does not mean that we need to get out and expose ourselves under the Sun immediately. Remember what PhytoFairy used to say “no extreme will hold long”? Basking in the sun may not promise you a large amount of Vitamin D to be produced in our body anyway.

Therefore, it is crucial to know why Vitamin D is closely related to sunlight. When our skin is exposed to the ultraviolet ray in the sunlight, the Vitamin D precursor in our epidermis may convert into Vitamin D, thus the gift from our Sun is also called “The Sunshine Vitamin”.

So how do we obtain Vitamin D?

1. Getting sunlight

Try basking in the sun for about 10-20 minutes daily. Without putting on any sunscreen, we may put our hands or calf under the sun so that it may allow our body to produce more Vitamin D.

2. Take in foods rich in Vitamin D

Foods that are commonly rich in Vitamin D include salmon, jelly ear, milk, yolk, liver, mushrooms.

Malaysia is a country with spring all the year round and PhytoFairy understands that it might get too hot if we are exposed to the sunlight for a long time. But, no worries, you may get yourself a glass of Phyto Chlorophyll which contains a hint of refreshing peppermint taste! Whenever the heat arrives, try adding some ice cubes into your drink and let your body cool down.

This is about the gift of Sun - Vitamin D. Let’s embrace the gift of the sunlight instead of avoiding it again!
